- New Hue Bridge update sets the stage for tweaking automations
- Automations will soon be visible alongside rooms and scenes
- There’s no sign yet of the SpatialAware feature we saw demoed at CES
If you have a Philips Hue Bridge or Philips Hue Bridge Pro setup at home, be on the lookout for a software upgrade now rolling out that lays the foundation for upcoming improvements to smart lighting automations.
As spotted by Notebookcheck, the notes accompanying update version 1975104000 (Hue Bridge v2) and version 2071193000 (Hue Bridge Pro) mention displaying automations “in the screens of the rooms and zones they control.”
Currently, if you open the Philips Hue app on your phone, you will see that there is a separate app. Automations tab where you’ll find them all listed – wake-up and bedtimers, motion sensor triggers, preset color cycles, etc. These automations are why Philips Hue devices are some of the best smart lights in the industry.
In the near future, it looks like these automations will also appear on the same screens where you can access the rooms and zones you’ve created for your lights, making it much easier to see what’s happening at a glance.
Future
The latest Bridge update doesn’t allow for this change – but it will apparently arrive “in the coming weeks.” We’ve reached out to Signify, Philips Hue’s parent company, to see if they have anything more to add, and will add an update here if we receive a response.
In addition to preparing for this adjustment to automations, the update’s release notes state that there are “several small changes behind the scenes” that make decks better than ever – so expect faster responses and fewer issues in the future.
Although not mentioned in this update, we are also patiently waiting for the SpatialAware feature, announced at CES 2026 and exclusive to the Hue Bridge Pro. When you set scenes in a room, it adjusts the output of each light, based on its position. For example, for a sunset scene, the effect of the artificial sun will be defined on one side of the room.
You can manage Hue Bridge updates by tapping Settings in the app, then choosing Software update. To make your life easier, activate Automatic updatewhich means your Hue devices will update themselves, without you having to do anything else.
