The brave and the bold The writer’s identity has reportedly been revealed – and DC fans are expressing their displeasure with the hire.
According to industry insider Jeff Sneider, the DC Universe (DCU) Batman movie will be written by Christina Hodson. The Hollywood scribe is best known for writing the screenplays for Birds of prey And The lightningaka two films set in the now-defunct DC Extended Universe (DCEU).
Usually, I advise you not to believe what you read on the Internet. This is especially true of rumors coming from people like Sneider, who is supposedly well-connected within the industry, but whose track record for leaks is mixed, to say the least.
On this occasion, however, another industry insider, who goes by the name Apocalyptic Horseman on X/Twitter, told Hodson East write the script for the DCUs Batman movie. Apocalyptic Horseman is much more reliable when it comes to scoops and other industry gossip, so there seems to be some credibility to this rumor.
The revelation about Hodson’s involvement comes days after DCU co-head James Gunn provided a small update on The brave and the bolddevelopment.
Responding to a fan during a Threads Q&A, Gunn hinted that while work was underway on the DCU Chapter One film, it could be a long time before it hits theaters. Indeed, from the point of view of the Batman project, DC Studios’ current priority is to film The Batman Part II and make sure it will meet its launch date of October 2, 2027.
This film, which exists independently of the DCU, is the sequel to the 2022 Robert Pattinson-starring film. The Batman and is expected to begin filming in early 2026. With Gunn also saying there will be no movement on TB&TB until a “workable script” is ready, it will be a long time before The Dark Knight officially makes its DCU debut.

Not good. Indeed, a thread on the DC Cinematic Reddit page is full of opinions ranging from general bemusement to outright frustration. Similar sentiments were expressed on other social media platforms, including X/Twitter.
Overall, these opinions are shared by a fraction – albeit a very vocal one – of the global DC Comics fanbase. So while they give us some insight into what people think about Hodson’s involvement, it’s impossible to determine whether the majority of people share a similar view.
This is not bad news for some, however. As others have pointed out, Hodson was the editor of Bumblebeewhich is widely considered one of the best Transformers films around. Meanwhile, in the aforementioned Reddit thread, some observers highlighted a scene of The lightningone involving Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne, and argued that it shows Hodson has a “great understanding” of the iconic character and his crime-fighting alter ego.
For what it’s worth, Gunn has yet to confirm or deny – at least as of publication time – that Hodson was writing TB&TBthe scenario of.
If Hodson’s involvement is announced in due course, it will mark the first major update we’ll receive on the DCU’s Batman film in months. Indeed, aside from Gunn’s responses to fans on Threads, June 2025 was the last time he discussed its development, with the DC Studios co-CEO saying “I think I have a way in” with The brave and the boldthe story.
