- YouTube TV has some big upgrades coming in early 2026, including changes to its subscription plans and multi-view feature.
- When the changes roll out, you’ll be able to create a multi-view screen covering sports, entertainment, news and more.
- But the biggest change is the change in subscription tiers, which will welcome more than 10 new genre-specific plans.
There’s a lot going on behind the scenes at YouTube, and CEO Neal Mohan just revealed a bunch of new upgrades coming in 2026 – and I have a feeling YouTube TV subscribers are really going to like this.
In his annual letter, Mohan announced two substantial changes for YouTube TV, one that builds on the evolution of its multi-view feature and another that changes the scale of subscription tiers. Mohan summarized these changes in a brief statement sharing the following:
“Building on our success in the living room, we’re driven by the simple belief that TV should be easy. We’ll soon be launching fully customizable multiview and more than 10 specialty YouTube TV packages covering sports, entertainment and news, all designed to give subscribers more control.” Let’s get into the details.
Overview of Multi-View Flexibility
Since its multiview feature launched in 2023, it has become one of YouTube TV’s most valuable features, especially for sports fanatics who like to stream up to four channels at once. However, this has been limited to a select list of channels to choose from, but Google has always found ways to evolve it, and its next upgrade is the biggest yet.
Building on the customizable multiview layout that was first announced in December, YouTube TV subscribers will have the ability to create a multiview screen that covers different types of channels from sports, entertainment, news, and more. – the four-screen limit remains unchanged, but it’s not a major setback.
When it rolls out, it will be a game changer for households who find themselves in heated arguments over what to watch. This way, sports and entertainment fans can be more flexible in their viewing.
Goodbye to “all or nothing” subscriptions
For years, YouTube TV subscribers have complained about the structure of the subscription tiers offered. At the moment, there is only one tier, the Basic plan, which costs $82.99 per month – and most members barely scratch the surface of the hundreds of channels on offer.
The new changes to YouTube TV will mark the end of the basic package’s single offering, and soon more than 10 genre-specific subscription tiers will be introduced, allowing members to be more selective about the types of content they want to stream.
Although Google hasn’t explained in detail what exactly the new tiers are, it’s likely that they will be divided into sports, entertainment, and other streaming packages based on specialized content. Instead of paying huge fees for channels you know you’ll never watch, the new tiers will not only save you a little each month, but they’ll also be much more tailored to your personal tastes.
We don’t know exactly when these new upgrades will roll out, other than they’ll arrive in early 2026, but what we do know is that existing YouTube TV subscribers will be especially happy to see the back end of the base plan.
