Six-member team to probe alleged rape of minor girl in Sanghar

The Sindh police chief has constituted a six-member committee, headed by DIG Mirpurkhas Range, to probe the allegations of rape and torture in Chautiarion area of ​​Sanghar district.

The committee, whose members include SSP Hyderabad Adeel Hussain Chandio, SSP Sanghar Abid Baloch, DSP Legal Zikria Korejo and two inspectors, Abdul Hakeem Kumbhar and Zahid Kamboh, will have to submit weekly updates on the investigation to the IGP.

On January 20, a minor aged around 14 to 15 years old was allegedly raped and tortured in a village near Chautiarion. The son of an influential landlord, Wazir Rajar, was accused in the FIR registered following the complaint of rape victim Shadbano Mallah.

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) MP Central Information Secretary Shazia Atta Marri inquired about Mallah’s health condition while visiting him at Liaquat University Hospital (LUH), Hyderabad on Sunday. Expressing solidarity, she assured the poor family that the government would provide them with the protection and support they need to fight for justice. “The incident was deeply distressing and left humanity ashamed,” the MP said during a media interview at the hospital.

Mallah, who was allegedly raped on the night of January 20, was shifted to LUH on January 22 from Peoples University Medical Hospital, Benazirabad district.

The hospital formed a medical committee comprising 12 doctors on January 23 to provide medical and psychological treatment to the patient besides maintaining the medico-legal file.

LUH spokesperson Asghar Ali Pathan informed that the patient had undergone dental, facial and plastic surgeries. She also benefits from psychotherapy. The accused allegedly caused cuts with a sharp object to the victim’s forehead, nose, lips and tongue.

The FIR of the incident was registered at Chautiarion police station under sections 376, 311 and 337 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).
