Mercythe new sci-fi thriller starring Chris Pratt, has put an end to James Cameron’s continued ascendancy. Avatar: Fire and Ash had enjoyed since its premiere late last year.
Released in December 2025, the Avatar threequel proved almost impossible to topple from its top spot at the box office – both internationally and domestically.
With its $11.2 million opening, the latest dystopian nail biter ended in late Fire and ashesThe Domination of , which failed to reach its $7 million profit after six weeks of release.
However, MercyThe fantasy show’s triumph only lasted at the American box office, as the latter still reigns on the global charts with $35 million to its credit.
While the film starring Pratt debuted at number four on the international box office chart, grossing $22.8 million.
According to Weekly Entertainmentlast weekend also saw “a marked decline,” with the domestic box office totaling “just over $44 million.”
In comparison, the box office gross during Avatar: Fire and AshThe first weekend of boasted a whopping $175 million.
Meanwhile, Chris Pratt is joined by Rebecca Ferguson in Mercywhich was produced on a budget of $60 million. With its “national premiere at $11.2”, the film “does not inspire confidence” in terms of breaking even at the box office.
