Former FIFA President Sepp Blatter also came out in favor of a proposal to boycott the 2026 World Cup, questioning the United States’ suitability to host the mega-sporting event, citing President Donald Trump and his administration’s conduct at home and abroad.
Calls for a boycott are growing as a German football official and former chairman of FIFA’s Independent Governance Committee has also made similar suggestions.

Earlier, Pieth criticized the Trump administration’s immigration policy, which advised fans to stay away from the United States and watch matches on television, adding: “Upon arrival, fans will be transferred directly to the next flight home. If they are lucky enough.”
Previously, a German soccer official, Bundesliga club St. Pauli president Oke Gottlich, called on European teams to boycott the World Cup to protest Trump’s efforts to seize Greenland, a semi-autonomous territory of the Kingdom of Denmark.
The World Cup will take place from June 11 to July 19. Canada, Mexico and the United States will jointly host all 104 matches.
