The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday expressed deep concern over the health of its incarcerated founder Imran Khan, alleging that jail authorities and the government were obstructing treatment of a “serious eye disease” and demanded that immediate medical attention be provided.

“According to doctors, this disease is very sensitive and serious, and there is a high risk of permanent damage to eyesight if appropriate and timely treatment is not provided,” the statement said.

The party alleged that prison authorities were insisting that treatment be provided inside the prison, even though doctors had clearly stated that such treatment was not possible within the prison premises and required an operating theater and specialized medical facilities.

“Imran Khan last had access to his personal doctor in October 2024, and since then, despite clear orders from the Islamabad High Court, his personal doctor has not been allowed to examine him,” the statement added, calling it a “serious violation of the fundamental human rights” of an under-trial prisoner.

He further said that a petition seeking regular medical check-ups had been pending before the court since August 2025 and had not been deliberately taken up.

According to the party, the government’s conduct reflects political victimization. It accused authorities of endangering the life and health of a prisoner for political revenge and demanded that Imran be allowed to immediately meet his family members and associates.

“The government is requested to facilitate an immediate meeting between Imran Khan and his family members and associates, without any delay, to reassure the public and enable them to receive treatment either at Shaukat Khanum Hospital or any other reputed hospital of their choice, where specialized doctors can provide treatment with comprehensive medical facilities,” the statement said.

The party also urged the judiciary to take an interest in the case, stressing that it concerns health rather than politics and that any negligence would be unacceptable.

“If, God forbid, Imran Khan were to suffer permanent damage to his eyesight, full responsibility would lie squarely with the government and prison authorities for obstructing treatment despite court orders,” it concluded.

Uzma Khan, sister of the jailed PTI leader, said he developed an infection in his right eye two months ago. She said that during a Dec. 2 meeting, limited to just 20 minutes, no clear information could be obtained regarding his eyes or general health.

“If the meeting had been longer, more details could have been revealed,” she said.

Uzma added that the family had not received any official information regarding Imran’s health and called on the government to issue an official statement clarifying his condition.

“We are repeatedly asked why we come to Adiala, but if we don’t come, where are we supposed to go? she said.
