Los Angeles Rams tight end Tyler Higbee faced a serious situation when he left Monday night’s playoff victory over the Minnesota Vikings late in the first quarter.
Rams head coach Sean McVay told reporters Tuesday that Higbee was hospitalized with a chest injury because he was “coughing up a little blood,” according to the team’s website.

McVay added that he was optimistic Higbee would be back for the team’s divisional game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
“He expects he’ll be ready to go, but I haven’t heard from (vice president of medicine Reggie Scott) yet. … You felt his presence early on. He was on the point to having a really big night, and he still made a huge contribution even playing just one quarter,” he said via The Orange County Register.

Higbee only played three games during the regular season while recovering from offseason knee surgery. He made his season debut against the New York Jets, and his impact was felt immediately as he scored a touchdown in the 19-9 victory.
He led the team Monday night with five catches for 58 yards even though he came out early.

Rams star Matthew Stafford was 19 of 27 for 209 yards and two touchdowns. He completed passes to eight different receivers, including Higbee.
