Lights, camera and… action! Wonderful manthe first Marvel TV show of 2026, is now available on Disney+. And, with the eight episodes of Wonderful man on launch day, it’s already time to dissect its finale, aka “Yucca Valley”.
Below, I’ll explain what happens to Simon Williams and Trevor Slattery in the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) TV series. I’ll also try to answer your biggest questions about the Disney+ series, including whether there will be a season 2 and why. Wonderful man leaves a major story thread unresolved. So go for it – but be careful, full spoilers follow for the latest Marvel TV show!
What happens to Simon and Trevor in the final episode of Wonder Man?
Without surprising anyone, “Yucca Valley” immediately succeeds its ancestor “Kathy Friedman”. The seventh chapter of the MCU TV show ended with Simon learning that Trevor had been working with the DoDC – the US agency that monitors superhumans it perceives as threats – to keep tabs on Simon. Remember, Trevor didn’t serve any prison time for his Mandarin-based crimes. Iron Man 3. So it was either help the DoDC or go back to prison.
Feeling betrayed by someone he considered his friend and mentor, Simon loses control, causing him to trigger an ion blast that damages one of the universe’s “Wonder Man” movie sets and temporarily cuts out power in a certain radius.
After learning what happened and inspecting the scene for themselves, the DoDC – led by tenacious Agent Cleary – now believes they have enough evidence to arrest Simon. What follows is a cross-frame sequence that appears to show the DoDC arriving at the apartment complex Simon lives in, and the latter slowly winding up as he watches a news report covering last night’s events before tearfully calling his mother before he is arrested.
As Simon resigns himself to his fate, he receives a phone call from Trevor, who tells Simon he knows how to make things right before ending said call. Confused, Simon turns up the volume on his television – he had turned it off to call his mother and then take Trevor’s call – and learns that the DoDC is not coming for him. They come to get Trevor.
Turns out Trevor reprized his role as Mandarin – well, the fake one he starred in. Iron Man 3. And, after recording a new video in which he takes full responsibility for the Hollywood explosion, which Trevor/The Mandarin passes off as a terrorist incident, he posts said video online, which news agencies and the DoDC quickly catch wind of.
The DoDC arrests Trevor/The Mandarin in his suite at the Talmadge Hotel, although Cleary suspects that Trevor/The Mandarin is covering for Simon and that Trevor is simply giving another performance as The Mandarin. Without breaking character, Trevor/The Mandarin calls Cleary an “idiot” before berating him further by recalling his Iron Man 3 days, saying “…and you never saw me coming”.
After escaping the clutches of the DoDC and without anyone knowing he was responsible for the explosion, Simon is called back to finish production on “Wonder Man.”
There, he gets a pep talk from Von Kovak, who tells Simon to use Trevor’s “betrayal” – remember, everyone except Simon and Cleary thinks Trevor East actually a terrorist called The Mandarin – to fuel his performance.
Before shooting the first scene of the day, the props department also revealed that they couldn’t find the sunglasses worn by Brett Willard, aka the actor who played Wonder Man in the original Universe movie. Handing them to Simon, he puts them on before removing the black robe he is wearing to reveal the Marvel character’s classic black costume with a giant red “W” emblazoned across his chest.
Simon is then seen filming the climax of the film’s remake and, without skipping a beat, the Marvel Phase 6 TV show cuts to said footage shown during the film’s world premiere. A full circle moment for the main character of the series if ever there was one.
Some sweet moments follow – Simon and Von Kovak discussing a possible sequel, Simon reconciling with his brother and earning some long-overdue praise, and a quick, quiet moment with his agent Janelle.
Then, somewhat bizarrely, we see Simon following a blue-collar worker named Chuck Eastman, who is apparently going to be the subject of a new biopic played by Simon. However, it soon becomes clear that this is all a facade, because Chuck is not just anyone: he is a DoDC security agent.
Long story short: Chuck allows Simon to accompany him on his next shift. To make sure Simon doesn’t attract questions from DoDC, Chuck forces him to wear a DoDC security guard outfit, which turns out to be the perfect cover for Simon. After convincing Chuck to let him wander the DoDC prison alone, Simon finds Trevor and – yes, you guessed it – uses his powers to break Trevor out.
As breach alarms sound, Cleary – who has just informed the DoDC deputy that Simon’s ionic abilities make him even more dangerous than they thought – and company rush to Trevor’s cell. Arriving at the scene, they stare in awe at a giant hole in the ceiling created by Simon. The show ends with Simon and Trevor being propelled into the air as Simon shows off his enhanced powers revealing that he can now fly.
Why don’t we learn how Simon Williams got his powers in Wonder Man?
I could be wrong – and correct me if I’m in the comments! – but I believe Wonderful man is the first MCU project that doesn’t revealed how a super-powered being gains their abilities.
Of course, Fantastic Four: first steps didn’t show us the superhuman origin story of Marvel’s First Family. We don’t actually see how Tom Holland’s Peter Parker became Spider-Man when he was introduced into the MCU. Captain America: Civil War or in his first solo film Spider-Man: Homecomingeither. However, these cases are different because we’ve seen the stories of the webslinger and the Fantastic Four’s origins in non-MCU film adaptations before.
With Wonderful man being many people’s first encounter with Simon Williams, it would have made perfect sense that his superhuman story had been covered. So why not?
In an exclusive chat before Wonderful manAt the launch of Disney+, aka one of the best streaming services in the world, I asked co-creator and executive producer Andrew Guest exactly this question.
“It’s interesting because, in the comics, Simon Williams has had different and complicated iterations over the years,” Guest responded. “When Marvel was thinking about this project, there was no particular comic book series they were considering. [for inspiration]they were therefore open to any interpretation.
“The more I understood Simon and understood what the show was about, the more I felt like Simon didn’t care about his powers,” he continued. “So I didn’t want the show to be too focused on their origin.
“As for Simon, it was something that just happened to him, in the same way that you can get really tall or, you know, have really hairy legs. So I didn’t feel the need to delve into Simon’s relationship with his superpowers and where it all started, and that’s what I thought the show’s relationship with them should be as well.”
Does Wonder Man include cameos from Wanda Maximoff and/or Vision?
No, Wanda Maximoff, aka the Scarlet Witch, and her romantic humanoid partner do not appear in Wonderful man.
Now you might be wondering why one or both of the superpowered beings would be featured in this show. Without getting into Simon Williams’ incredibly complex Marvel Comics history, he has strong ties to both characters. It is therefore not possible that Wanda and/or Vision could have made an appearance.
That said, the chances of them succeeding were still slim to none. That’s because – spoilers – Wanda is presumed dead after seemingly sacrificing herself Doctor Strange 2. Meanwhile, Vision was killed by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War before his body was reanimated as an emotionless husk for WandaVision. The last time we saw this resurrected Vision, he had flown off to an unknown location after “Soul Vision” – a version of the character that Wanda made using her powers in WandaVision – restored Vision’s memories.
While Wanda is believed to be dead and Vision’s location is unknown, we will find him in VisionQuest on Disney+ later this year – so none of us should have expected them to appear in Wonderful man.
Does Wonder Man have a mid-credits and/or post-credits scene?
No, there’s no mid-credits stinger and/or end-credits stinger to stick around for.
As I always say in these types of articles, you should watch the end credits sequence to appreciate how many people worked on a film or television project. If you just watch the finale credits to see if there is a finale Wonderful man scene, however, you will be deeply disappointed.
Will there be a Wonder Man season 2?
We don’t know. Publicly, Marvel has only described Wonderful man in limited series. This is usually code for projects like this that are a “once done” situation.
That’s not to say a second season should be completely ruled out. As has become the industry standard these days, Wonderful manThe return of depends on its audience. Attract a large enough audience and Marvel would be foolish not to greenlight a follow-up.
As for what the story in Season 2 might entail, Guest gave me some insight into where Simon Williams’ MCU journey might be headed.
“[Co-creator] Fate [Daniel Cretton]myself, Sir Ben [Kingsley] and Yahya [Adbul-Mateen II] I would love to be able to continue working together and continue to explore Simon and Trevor and other stories with them,” Guest told me.
“I haven’t thought too much about what would be next for Simon, but one of the things I think about is that maybe Simon thinks that getting this role of his life would solve all his problems. I guess he’s going to be just as frustrated and alone and just as difficult. [to work with] like he was before. Maybe there are other things in his life that need to happen [to the fore] and more introspection that needs to happen for it to flourish. »
