Wonderful man Showrunner Andrew Guest explained why the Marvel TV show doesn’t provide an answer to its biggest mystery.
In an exclusive conversation with TechRadar conducted ahead of eight episodes of Wonderful man filed on Disney+, Guest explained his reasons for leaving this particularly important plot point unresolved.

As the end credits roll for the Marvel television series, some viewers might wonder why we never learn the story of Simon Williams’ superhuman origins.
As I point out in my Wonderful man end of article explained, apart Fantastic Four: first steps and Spider-Man’s introduction to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in Captain America: Civil Warthis is the only time we don’t see how a character acquires their abilities.
However, unlike Marvel’s First Family and the webslinger, whose origin stories have been covered in other live-action and animated projects, Williams is someone most viewers have never met. Revealing how he came to possess superpowers in the Disney+ series therefore seemed like a sure thing.
And yet, Wonderful man does not deliver the goods. Of course, references are made to his history and family history, such as the death of his father when Simon was young. There is also the insinuation that his father perished in a fire in the family home, which Simon may have caused accidentally.
Despite this information, the MCU TV Original refuses to show us when and/or how its eponymous character obtained his superpowers. So I couldn’t help but ask Guest about the reasons behind this storytelling decision and here’s what he had to say.
“It’s interesting because, in the comics, Simon Williams has had different and complicated iterations over the years,” replied the co-creator of the Marvel Phase 6 project.
“When Marvel was thinking about this project, there was no particular comic book series they were considering. [for inspiration]they were therefore open to any interpretation.
“The more I understood Simon and understood what the show was about, the more I felt like Simon didn’t care about his powers,” he continued. “So I didn’t want the show to be too focused on their origin.
“As for Simon, it was something that just happened to him, in the same way that you can get really tall or, you know, have really hairy legs. So I didn’t feel the need to delve into Simon’s relationship with his superpowers and where it all started, and that’s what I thought the show’s relationship with them should be as well.”
Do you agree with Guest that Wonderful man didn’t he need to clarify William’s superhuman origins? Or are you disappointed we didn’t see more? Let me know in the comments.
