ISLAMABAD:
President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to providing institutional facilitation and expedited approvals to partner companies, and underlined the importance of deepening long-term cooperation in rail freight modernization, domestic logistics and integrated freight corridors.
The President met with Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and Managing Director of DP World in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The President appreciated DP World’s strong and enduring partnership with Pakistan and its contribution to the country’s logistics, port operations and infrastructure, the President’s Secretariat said in a press release.
The meeting reviewed developments in Pakistan DP World’s engagement, noting that recent intergovernmental agreements reflected strong commitment from both parties.
The President said these initiatives align with Pakistan’s objective of positioning itself as a regional trade and transit hub through improved connectivity and modern logistics infrastructure.
Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem highlighted Pakistan’s strategic geographic location at a time of global uncertainty and stressed that the country was in a critical position as maritime routes faced increasing pressures.
He noted that Pakistan’s direct connectivity with China and Central Asia, combined with its access to the Arabian Sea and surface connectivity via road and rail networks, placed it at the center of regional and inter-regional trade flows.
He said Pakistan serves as a natural hub connecting key parts of the world by sea and land, and reiterated that the UAE will continue to work closely with Pakistan, building on decades of trusting and enduring relations.
Pakistan’s ambassador to the UAE was also present during the meeting.
