SANGHAR:

A man kidnapped his ex-wife for remarrying after acquiring khula, allegedly to avenge the damage done to his ego, as the woman had not only “escaped torture in captivity” but had also found marital bliss and was living happily with her new husband.

Members of the Odh community staged a protest in Sanghar demanding recovery of a married woman, Jamilaan Odh, who was allegedly kidnapped by her estranged husband Sunil Odh.

The protest, which took place in front of the Sanghar Press Club, attracted a large number of women, children and elderly people, who accused the police of negligence and demanded justice.

Protesters, including Miromal Odh, Sajan Odh, Rajo Odh and Sodomal Odh, told the media that Jamilaan Odh, a resident of Booriji village in Pirumal, was kidnapped by her estranged husband, Sunil Odh. They said a case had already been registered at the Pirumal police station, but no effective action was taken, causing deep concern in the village.

According to the protesters, Sunil Odh had previously abused Jamilaan, which led her to file for divorce in court. After obtaining khula, she remarried, prompting Sunil to issue threats of dire consequences. Protesters claimed he then followed through on his threats by kidnapping her.

They also complained that despite registering the case, the police had not made any headway against the accused, leaving the victim’s family in grave distress. Concluding the protest, the protesters urged SSP Sanghar Abid Ali Baloch to immediately take notice, ensure strict legal action against those involved and recover Jamilaan Odh without delay so that justice can be served.
