NYT Strands today (game #698) – the answers
The answers to today’s Strands, game #698, are…
- LANDMARK
- TAG
- COMPASS
- ATLAS
- SEXTANT
- STAR
- SPANGRAM: FIND YOUR WAY
- My rating: Easy
- My rating: Perfect
There was no way to get lost with this fairly simple search, but it was still fun to navigate the board.
If I had only one book on a desert island, I would choose an ATLAS, not because it could help me figure out where I am in the world, but because looking at maps endlessly fascinates me.
That said, I’m also aware of how maps distort the true reality of our planet, such as Greenland’s proximity to certain nations and its size. To investigate this, I would like to recommend a website called The True Size (thetruesize.com), which allows you to see the true size of American countries and states compared to the rest of the world. For someone who lives in the UK – a place that is often described as being much bigger than it actually is – this is a pretty humbling exercise.
