Nipah Virus Advisory Published

KARACHI:

Following reports of Nipah virus cases in India, the Director General of Health of Sindh issued an advisory directing health authorities to remain vigilant and take preventive measures.

According to the Sindh health department, the situation is being closely monitored.

The advisory asks all public and private hospitals to remain on alert and strictly follow the guidelines issued by the Federal Ministry of Health.

Health officials clarified that no cases of Nipah virus have been reported so far in Pakistan.

The advisory describes Nipah virus as a deadly zoonotic disease that can spread to humans. Early symptoms include fever, headache, cough, body aches and vomiting. Medical experts warn that the virus can cause serious respiratory illnesses and encephalitis (brain inflammation).
