President Donald Trump will sign an executive order Friday to bring an IndyCar race to the streets of Washington, D.C., for America250, PK Press Club Digital has confirmed.
NBC News initially reported the news, saying the race, which would be titled the “America250 Grand Prix,” would take place the weekend of August 21-23. IndyCar normally takes place on Sunday and there are currently no events scheduled for this weekend.
According to NBC News, an order that has not yet been made public will direct the Interior and Transportation departments to “coordinate with the mayor” and plan a running course near the National Mall “that will showcase the majesty of Washington, D.C. and its iconic national monuments,” based on a fact sheet.

NBC News also reports, citing the White House, that departments should obtain necessary permits and approvals “quickly,” and that Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy will have the authority “to use available funds to facilitate the ride.”
“President Trump has bestowed incredible distinction on our sport and we are grateful for his trust and support as INDYCAR prepares to honor our country with a tremendous racing spectacle,” IndyCar owner Roger Penske said in a statement to the media outlet. “This will be a truly memorable event that celebrates our country’s independence and the legacy of patriotism, innovation and excellence that drives motorsports across America.”
The Department of Transportation was pushing to hold a race on the National Mall as part of the celebration, FOX Business confirmed last week.

Alongside this campaign, Trump posted an AI-generated video on Truth Social promoting the race. The video showed fans around the National Mall and drivers speeding around a Washington, D.C., racetrack.
“The Grand Prix is an unprecedented opportunity to celebrate our country’s proud racing pedigree, showcase the beauty of the National Mall and generate millions in vital tourism revenue for the capital,” a Department of Transportation spokesperson said.
“The Trump administration is committed to making Washington great again, and this race is another example of that commitment. We will continue to work with our congressional partners to highlight the positive impacts this will have on the District and set things right.”
The event has a roadblock, however, as advertising on Capitol grounds is prohibited. Racing vehicles are often filled with advertisements.

It’s unclear where the trail would be located, but the video Trump posted featured the Capitol, the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial.
A UFC event is also planned on the South Lawn on June 14, Trump’s 80th birthday.
