RAWALPINDI:
Members of Insaf Lawyers Wing (ILF), Rawalpindi High Court Bar Association and district bar associations arrived at Adiala Central Prison on Saturday evening and submitted a written request to the Superintendent of Adiala Prison for the medical report of PTI founder Imran Khan’s eye operation.
Lawyers staged a protest rally outside Rawalpindi district courts on Saturday against the 26th and 27th constitutional amendments, suspension of meetings with PTI founder Imran Khan and conduct of his eye surgery without informing his family.
The lawyers were led by ILF district general secretary Raja Mateen and Central Executive Committee member Noorul Islam Advocate. The delegation also included Hasnain Sumbal, Chaudhry Owais and Jamshed Mahmood Advocates. Talking to the media outside the jail, they said they had submitted a request to the jail authorities, asking the superintendent of Adiala jail to provide the medical report of PTI founder president Imran Khan’s eye surgery.
They further stated that they will take this matter to the International Human Rights Organization on February 2 and will use all options in this regard, including constitutional, legal and judicial avenues. By demonstrating in front of the prison, we condemn all illegal measures and will also vigorously resist.
The protest rally was led by Punjab Bar Council member Faisal Mahmood Malik, along with lawyers Rizwan Akhtar, Ghulam Farooq Awan, Tabish Sadozai and Aamir Malik.
Before the rally, lawyers held a meeting at the district bar. Addressing the gathering, Faisal Malik, Rizwan Akhtar and Ghulam Farooq Awan termed the ban on meeting Imran Khan illegal and unconstitutional.
They further said that transferring him to the hospital and carrying out eye surgery without informing his family was also unconstitutional. The speakers announced that legal proceedings would be initiated against all the doctors involved, for which the necessary authorizations were requested.
Lawyers announced a full strike on February 8. Lawyers, their clerks and support staff will observe a complete shutdown, with offices remaining closed and vehicles not removed. The leaders said protests would take place in the streets, in front of courts and at major intersections as part of a broader fight for systemic change, adding that the legal community would no longer remain silent.
They also demanded that Imran Khan be shifted from jail to hospital for treatment and the charges against him be scheduled for a hearing.
Prayers were offered for the recovery of Imran Khan at the gathering.
