The Maryland Freedom Caucus, a group of Republican delegates to the Maryland state legislature, posted a sign on social media that appeared to have been hung by fellow Democrats, dismissing concerns about trans athletes in women’s sports.
The post claimed the sign was hung on Wednesday, National Women and Girls in Sports Day.

The sign, which bears the signature of the Maryland Legislative LGBTQ+ Caucus, was hung in the offices of state Democratic delegates Eric Ebersole and Nick Allen.
The panel baselessly argues that “trans women have no competitive advantage” in women’s sports. In 2021, the British Journal of Sports Medicine published a study finding that transgender women maintain an advantage over biological women even after a year of hormone treatment.

The sign also said that “anti-dignity policies put transgender youth at risk,” “banning transgender youth is illegal,” and “invasive enforcement creates fear.”
PK Press Club Digital reached out to Ebersole, Allen and the Maryland Legislative LGBTQ+ Caucus for a response.
The message and apparent sign comes a day before the Maryland state legislature votes on the Girls’ Sports Equity Act.

The bill would require “certain school-sponsored interscholastic and intramural junior varsity and varsity sports teams or sports and locker rooms to be expressly designated based on biological sex;
So far, 27 US states have similar laws in place that ban trans athletes in women’s sports.
