Vance and Rubio cheer on Team USA women’s ice hockey

Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio were at the Winter Olympics Thursday to cheer on the U.S. women’s ice hockey team in its victory over the Czech Republic, 5-1.

Vance and Rubio were seen in the crowd with women’s ice hockey gold medalists Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson and Monique Lamoureux, speed skating gold medalist Apolo Anton Ohno and figure skating gold medalist Evan Lysacek.

Milan was the first stop on Vance’s trip, combining diplomacy and sports, as he led President Donald Trump’s delegation to the Winter Olympics, then stopped in Armenia and Azerbaijan. Vance was seen cheering on the red, white and blue when Alex Carpenter scored the Americans’ first goal.

“Across the country – Democrat, Republican, Independent – ​​we all support and encourage you,” he told the athletes earlier in the day.

VANCE AND RUBIO GREETING US WINTER OLYMPIANS IN ITALY

Usha Vance, the second lady, joined the delegation on the trip. The vice president said his wife “is not a sports fan” but “makes us obsessively watch the Olympics” every two years, citing the competitors who bring the country together.

“Everyone supports you and everyone encourages you,” he added.

Carpenter’s goal started the onslaught for the American team. Hayley Scamura scored two goals for the team, leading the way.

Hilary Knight, competing in her final Olympics, added a goal with Joy Dunne.
