So, read on to see what we learned from this week’s movie and TV launches. – Tom Power, senior entertainment reporter
The Lincoln Lawyer season 4 (Netflix)
Look on it
The court is back, friends! The Lincoln Lawyer Season 4 airs on Netflix and sees Los Angeles’ top criminal defense lawyer, Mickey Haller, face his most difficult case yet. On trial for a murder he did not commit, Mickey must act as both a defendant and a defense attorney in what promises to be another suspenseful case.
According to Michael Connelly The law of innocence, Season 4 picks up directly after last season’s cliffhanger ending, which saw Mickey discover a body in the trunk of his car. Unlike the previous season, which was broadcast in two parts, all 10 episodes of the latest opus are now available for streaming. – Amelia Schwanke, Entertainment Editor
The Muppet Show Special (Disney+)
Look on it
There are only two people who can save the world right now: Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy. Lucky for us, they are leading the Disney+ relaunch The puppet showwhich makes me so happy that it actually brings tears to my eyes.
We’re treated to the usual banter and musical numbers (with a 2026 twist) but, as if that wasn’t enough, pop icon Sabrina Carpenter joins them on screen. Since the Short and sweet album, Carpenter’s vintage, cutesy aesthetic rivals anything Miss Piggy would wear on a daily basis… and oh boy, do I smell an impending enemy war. – Jasmine Valentine, entertainment journalist
Relationship Goals (Prime Video)
Look on it
Prime Video has done it again. Despite the negative reactions that this War of the Worlds film received for looking like a two-hour Amazon commercial, the streamer has released another ad disguised as a film using famous singers-turned-actors to attract viewers.
Billed as a light-hearted Valentine’s Day romantic comedy starring Destiny’s Child’s Kelly Rowland and Wu-Tang Clan’s Method Man, Relationship goals was instead presented as a glossy promotion for Pastor Michael Todd’s book of the same name, which – surprise surprise – you can buy on Amazon. Not surprisingly, Todd is also recognized as a star and producer. As you can imagine, Prime Video’s previous bet was also weak. – AS
Ella McCay (Hulu/Disney+)
Look on it
It’s been such a busy awards season that you may have overlooked this little gem, now available on Hulu and Disney+. Sex education‘s Emma Mackey plays the title character, a 34-year-old woman who becomes governor of her hometown state. However, the residents aren’t her biggest challenge: it’s Ella’s husband, father and brother who take the crown in their place.
In addition to being extremely endearing, there is a sense of optimism in Ella McCay that we rarely get with today’s films. Of course there are challenges, but that’s just life. Here we have pure sunshine in a bottle and it’s incredibly hard to find. – Joint venture
The Burbs (Peacock)
Look on it
Peacock’s adaptation of the 1989 black comedy The “suburbs” arrives this Sunday. As of this writing, its critical score for Rotten Tomatoes has not yet been determined, so we cannot gauge its success compared to the original starring Tom Hanks.
Nonetheless, the plot is simple but intriguing and revolves around a newly married couple as they move to the suburban neighborhood in which their husband grew up. This decision reveals old secrets and their hopes for an idyllic place to live are soon ruined.
There is a great cast attached to this series that might encourage viewers to tune in. Keke Palmer, Jack Whitehall and Haley Joel Osment are some of the big names involved, so fingers crossed it’s a good watch. – Lucy Buglas, senior entertainment editor
The Lucy Letby Investigation (Netflix)
Look on it
Netflix’s latest crime documentary focuses on Lucy Letby, a neonatal nurse who was convicted of murdering seven babies and attempting to murder seven others in her care.
To explore the case, it features interviews with experts and lawyers from both sides, as well as an anonymous interview with the mother of one of the victims. According to a press release from ITN Productions, this is the “first time she has spoken about her experience.”
Additionally, the release says there is “never-before-seen footage” in a documentary produced “following years of research and relationship building.” This will be a very tough watch and I can see it dividing the audience, but if you’re interested, it’s streaming now. – kg
