Breakup Star Patricia Arquette revealed what fans can expect to see as part of Harmony Cobel’s character arc in season 2.
Chatting with TechRadar ahead of the popular Apple TV Plus show’s return on January 17, Arquette suggested that Cobel would be embarking on a coming-of-age journey of sorts. Not only that, but she’ll also spend much of this season questioning her allegiance to Lumon Industries, the clandestine biotech megacorporation she’s worked tirelessly for throughout her adult life.
Major spoilers immediately follow for Breakup the last two episodes of season 1. Go back now if you haven’t watched them.
In Breakup In episode 8 of season 1, titled “What’s for Dinner?” “, Cobel was suspended as director of Lumon’s Severed Floor. This is because she hid information about Helly R’s (Helena Egan’s “innie” character) suicide attempt and her extracurricular activities using the pseudonym Ms. Selvig from the Lumon board. The latter included Cobel spying on Mark Scout by posing as his absent-minded neighbor and being hired as a nanny for Mark’s newborn nephew.
However, in last season’s finale, Cobel was spared Lumon’s blushes — and potentially devastating media coverage — when his Macrodata Refiners, including Helly and Mark’s “innie” (known simply as Mark S ), have temporarily escaped into the real world. This almost led them to blow the whistle on Lumon’s nefarious labor practices and they would have succeeded if not for Cobel’s last-minute intervention. Indeed, it is Cobel who realizes that the “innies” have used Lumon’s emergency program to escape and, during a Lumon gala, tries to prevent Helly from revealing what is happening within the odious organization.

Look on it
One would expect Cobel’s sinister employers to thank her for saving their hides and potentially reinstate her as head of Severed Floor, right? This is not the case. I’m not going to spoil what happens in the first few episodes of this season – my Breakup The season 2 review does, however, contain very mild spoilers for its first four episodes, if you’re interested. Arquette was also keen not to spoil anything important in Cobel’s character arc in the second outing of Apple’s mystery thriller series, but she did explain where Cobel’s state of mind stands. Breakup season 2.
“I think she doesn’t like the management [that] “The company is coming in,” Arquette told me. “She’s an old-school person, and I feel like even though she did things that weren’t the company’s purview, her goal was to do it for Lumon. [and] for greatness of care, and she’s very frustrated that the company doesn’t value that at all, or doesn’t value her at all.

“She sees how much she has done and how crucial a role she has played in the growth and trajectory of this company,” Arquette added. “It’s like a child who has a parent who will never really recognize her or really love her, so she’s always trying to get that kind of approval. At the same time, in this kind of adolescent vortex of her emotional growth, she also hates them, so there is a desire to be loved by them and also to punish them that she struggles with.
