Navy chief visits Malaysia to boost maritime cooperation

Admiral Ashraf discusses security challenges, aligning strategic perspectives and strengthening operational cooperation

Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf paid an official visit to Malaysia, where he called on senior leadership of the Royal Malaysian Navy, the Pakistan Navy said on Sunday.

Admiral Ashraf was received at the Royal Malaysian Navy Headquarters by Admiral Tan Sri (Dr) Zulhelmy bin Ithnain, Chief of the Royal Malaysian Navy, and given a guard of honor.

During the visit, discussions focused on aligning strategic perspectives and strengthening operational cooperation, capacity building and coordinated responses to maritime security challenges.

Admiral Ashraf highlighted the Pakistan Navy’s contributions to regional stability through Regional Maritime Security Patrols (RMSP) and participation in the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF).

The Chief of Naval Staff also visited the National Hydrographic Center of Malaysia, where he highlighted strengthening cooperation with the National Hydrographic Office of Pakistan in training, data exchange and professional collaboration.

The visit reaffirmed the enduring naval partnership between Pakistan and Malaysia and its commitment to forward-looking maritime cooperation, according to the Pakistan Navy.

The visit comes as Pakistan deepens its military ties with its regional partners. Barely four days ago, Pakistan launched the 9th Pakistan Army International Team Spirit Competition (PATS) 2026, in the presence of contingents from forces of 19 friendly countries, including Malaysia.

According to state broadcaster PTV, PATS is a mission- and task-oriented professional military exercise held annually in the country.

A total of 16 national teams from Pakistan Army and Navy, along with observers from Pakistan Air Force, were also participating in the exercise.
