An apartment that a member of the Israeli bobsleigh team and other Olympians were using as they finished training for the Winter Olympics in Italy was broken into Saturday, the Israeli bobsleigh pilot said.

AJ Edelman, a former Olympic skeleton athlete who is now a driver for the Israeli bobsleigh team, said in a social media post that passports and other items worth “thousands of dollars” were among the items stolen from the apartment.

“What a season,” he added in the post.

Edelman said the team continued to train even after an investigation was launched. He said the way the team handled the day “is a really great example of how we move forward in difficult circumstances.”

“Such a blatant violation: suitcases, shoes, equipment, passports stolen, and the boys went straight back to training today. I truly believe this team exemplifies the Israeli spirit.”

He told The Associated Press that he was in Italy, but was not at the scene of the theft. He said team coach Itamar Shprinz was present, but it was unclear whether he witnessed the theft or was nearby when it occurred.

The Israeli Olympic Committee did not immediately comment on the matter. Israel is competing in bobsleigh for the first time at the Olympic Games. The team qualified after Great Britain decided not to take one of the two places allocated to them for the Milan Cortina Games.

The team has nicknamed the team “Shul Runnings” as they prepare for their Olympic participation.
