“Remembering Charlie Kirk,” was written on the photos as the show aired one of the conservative activist’s speeches. Kirk was murdered in September during a speech on the campus of Utah Valley University.

The group delivered patriotic performances in what would counterprogram the Super Bowl LX halftime show featuring Bad Bunny.

“This is real American,” Gilbert said to start the show while wearing a “God, Country Family” T-shirt.

The live stream on YouTube attracted more than 4.8 million viewers before the show ended. War Department Secretary Pete Hegseth also made it clear that he and his family were watching the event.

“The All-American Halftime Show is an opportunity for all Americans to enjoy a halftime show with no other purpose than to celebrate faith, family and freedom,” Andrew Kolvet of Turning Point USA said in a press release ahead of the show.

“We decided to offer an entertainment option that will be fun, great and exciting for the whole family while millions of people come together for the big game. That’s exactly what these artists will deliver, and we can’t wait to see the incredible show they’re about to put on. We know millions of people across the country will be watching as well.”

Gilbert revealed before the show why he was performing.

“I am a songwriter who grew up and still lives in Jackson County, Georgia, whose goal in the music business was to sell out the local theater just a few miles from my home and make a living writing songs,” he said in a statement.

“I’m a recovering addict with a history of all the bad choices that came with it. I’m not proud of those choices, but I am proud of the choice I made to live in a different direction.

“I share my story through my music in the hope that it can help and inspire others in their darkest hours. I am a Christian and I love our country despite its flaws. I have dedicated a part of my life to the men and women who fight for it and to the families of those who gave their lives for it. Above all, I am a proud husband and father of three children.”
