Boxer Jake Paul explained his “fake citizen” stunt targeting singer Bad Bunny on Sunday ahead of the Grammy Award winner’s Super Bowl LX halftime show.

Paul wrote on social media that he wasn’t picking on Bad Bunny because he was from Puerto Rico, but rather because he was speaking out against things like U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

“To clarify: I was not calling anyone a ‘fake citizen’ because they are from Puerto Rico. I live in Puerto Rico and I love Puerto Rico. I have used my platform to support Puerto Rico time and time again and always will,” he wrote. “But if you publicly criticize ICE for doing its job and openly hating America, I’m going to speak out about it. Period. It’s the same reason I called Hunter Hess.

“If you benefit from a country and the platform it gives you, but you publicly disrespect it at the same time, that’s what I mean by being a false citizen. And I recognize that love is more powerful than hate. Love America.”
