- AI.com was just bought by the founder of Crypto.com for $70 million
- The deal was of course financed in crypto
- It is now the most expensive domain
Kris Marszalek, founder of the aptly named crypto platform Crypto.com, purchased AI.com for $70 million, making it the most expensive domain sale ever. Financial Times report.
And of course, the transaction was entirely funded by cryptocurrency. But that’s not the only thing Kris Marszalek has about the deal: The founder, who has already spent a lot of money on Super Bowl advertising, managed to acquire the domain just before the 2026 Super Bowl, in line with trends aimed at capturing a large audience.
Marszalek reportedly plans to launch AI.com as a personal AI agent for messaging, app usage and stock trading.
Domains like this rarely come up for sale, but AI.com’s sale managed to break all records by becoming the most expensive domain ever sold, surpassing CarInsurance.com ($49.7 million), VacationRentals.com ($35 million), and Voice.com ($35 million).
AI.com is probably considered the most valuable field in artificial intelligence simply because of its simplicity and clarity: it has been around since the early days of the Internet and has changed hands several times, but only because of the rise of AI has it reached record prices.
While it’s unclear whether domain ownership will generate long-term returns, it could be a significant investment if artificial intelligence continues to remain relevant.
