American figure skater Amber Glenn hit back at critics Tuesday after her gold medal in the team event at the Winter Olympics.
Glenn, who said she was taking a break from social media due to “hateful” comments after criticizing President Donald Trump’s administration, returned to TikTok with photos of her and Alysa Liu. She addressed her caption to those who apparently came after her.

“They hate to see two woke assholes win,” Glenn wrote. “If ‘Woke’ means people who use their platforms to advocate for the marginalized communities in the country they actively represent… Then yes, of course?”
Glenn criticized the Trump administration during a pre-Olympics press conference last week, saying it had been a “difficult time” for her and members of the LGBT community. It was one of the few political remarks made by American athletes in the run-up to the Winter Games.

“It’s been a difficult time for the (LGBTQ) community as a whole in this administration,” she said, via USA Today. “This isn’t the first time we’ve had to come together as a community and try to fight for our human rights. And now especially, it’s not just affecting the queer community, but many other communities, and I think we’re able to support each other in ways that we didn’t need to do before, and because of that, it’s made us a lot stronger.”
Glenn added that the issue she was talking about was something she wasn’t going to gloss over.
The negative reactions online were enough to allow him to go offline for a few days.
“When I chose to use one of the amazing things about the United States of America (freedom of speech) to express how I feel as an athlete competing for Team USA in a troubled time for many Americans, I am now receiving a frightening amount of hate/threats for simply using my voice WHEN I am asked how I feel,” she wrote in a since-expired post on her Instagram Stories.

“I expected it but I’m disappointed. For now, I will limit my time on social media for my own well-being, but I will never stop using my voice for what I believe in.”
