FCC suspends contempt proceedings

.

ISLAMABAD:

The Federal Constitutional Court (FCC) on Wednesday stayed proceedings pending before the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in the case of Dr Aafia Siddiqui, suspending the scheduled hearings of the High Court and effectively stopping all further action, including contempt of court proceedings.

A three-member bench headed by FCC Chief Justice Aminuddin Khan and comprising Justice Ali Baqar Najafi and Justice Syed Arshad Hussain Shah, heard the case.

After considering appeals filed by the federal government, the court blocked the IHC from pursuing the case, including with respect to possible contempt proceedings.
