The Sindh government has suspended the head of Dadu Campus of the University of Sindh, Prof Azhar Shah, after videos of him surfaced on social media, sparking allegations including use of inappropriate language and disruption of academic activities.

In a letter to the vice-chancellor, the university’s pro-chancellor and Sindh minister for universities and governing boards, Ismail Rahoo, noted that some videos involving the professor had been circulating online and were said to have damaged the reputation of the institution.

He ordered that the professor be suspended and a formal investigation be opened to find out the facts and circumstances of the case.

The letter stated that the proceedings would be conducted in strict accordance with the law, ensuring that the officer concerned would have a reasonable opportunity to be heard.

He further directed that the investigation be completed within 15 days and a detailed report, including findings and recommendations, be submitted to the Pro-Chancellor/Minister.

The minister also requested that the matter be presented to the union for review and necessary action in accordance with the law.

Separate complaints and testimonies shared by faculty members and student representatives claimed that the material in circulation included multiple clips from different eras, rather than a single incident.

The videos show the campus official appearing unsteady and having difficulty standing during campus activities.

Complaints submitted to the investigation alleged that the official was frequently drunk and “not in his right mind” and spoke incoherently while attending classes. The observations also alleged inappropriate conduct and harassment of intoxicated students, according to the people familiar with the complaints.

The problem worsened after teachers and students boycotted classes, prompting Rahoo to intervene. University officials said the campus official was removed from his position rather than suspended.

The investigation is being conducted by a three-member committee headed by Dr Javed, dean of the department of business and commerce at the University of Sindh.
