ISLAMABAD:
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has recommended Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to posthumously award a civil award to Aoun Abbas for showing extraordinary courage in attempting to arrest the suicide bomber who attacked the Khadijatul Kubra Imambargah in Tarlai area of Islamabad.
On February 6, at least 32 worshipers were killed and dozens injured when a massive bomb ripped through an imambargah in Islamabad’s Tarlai area. The explosion occurred during Friday prayers. The incident sparked widespread national admiration for Abbas, a local resident who was apparently preparing for his upcoming wedding and tried to stop the attacker. His actions have been compared to those of other national heroes who similarly risked everything to protect innocent lives.
In his letter, Governor Kundi expressed deep sadness and condolences over the tragic loss of innocent lives in the suicide attack. He paid glowing tribute to Abbas’ “unprecedented courage”, stressing that the young martyr fearlessly confronted the attacker at the entrance and prevented him from entering the main hall.
Kundi urged the Prime Minister to confer the Sitara-e-Shujaat or Tamgha-e-Shujaat award posthumously in recognition of the young hero’s bold intervention, which he said averted a far more devastating outcome.

The governor noted in the letter that he had demonstrated “exceptional valor” by sacrificing his own life to protect others, setting an “outstanding example of courage and humanity.”
He described the martyr’s sacrifice as a source of pride for the nation and a beacon in the defense of human lives against terrorism.
The Prime Minister had announced Rs10 million for Abbas during his visit to the imambargah a day ago.
“Abbas, who sacrificed his life in the line of duty, will be remembered with golden words,” Prime Minister Shehbaz had said, stressing that such sacrifices in the fight against terrorism would not be in vain.
Later, he also visited Abbas’ residence, Shaheed Oun Abbas, to offer prayers and condolences. Federal ministers, police officers and district administration officials accompanied the Prime Minister during the visit and briefed him about the details of the incident.
Leader of Opposition in the Senate Allama Raja Nasir had also paid tribute to Abbas on Tuesday and recommended that he be given the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz.
