LAHORE:
Senior politician and former federal minister Muhammad Ali Durrani has said that President Asif Ali Zardari could play a role in facilitating the move of former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
In an interview, Durrani said relations between the government and the PTI were currently operating on a “quid pro quo” basis, with former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz president Nawaz Sharif playing an active role in facilitating the dialogue.
Durrani added that senior PML-N politician Rana Sanaullah is also contributing positively to reconciliation efforts on behalf of Nawaz Sharif. He pointed out that Nawaz Sharif had engaged opposition forces to take the process forward.
“President Zardari is quietly working towards political reconciliation, while Nawaz Sharif is engaging the opposition to move the process forward,” he said, referring to Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s remarks on the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.
