Marshal Munir discusses global and regional security with Marco Rubio in Germany

Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), HJ, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defense Forces (CDF), on Saturday held talks with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on regional and global security and counter-terrorism cooperation on the sidelines of the 62nd Munich Security Conference.

During the engagement, both sides discussed issues of mutual interest, including evolving security dynamics and counter-terrorism measures, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The army chief visited Germany from February 12 to 14 to attend side meetings at the annual security forum.

The Marshal also interacted with German authorities and the military leadership of Brazil and Lebanon, focusing on contemporary security issues, bilateral defense cooperation and the need to promote global peace and security through bilateral and multilateral dialogue.

As part of its engagement with the German authorities, “the COAS and the CDF called on Mr. Alexander Dobrindt, Federal Minister of the Interior of the Federal Republic of Germany, Mr. Günter Sautter, Foreign Policy and Security Policy Advisor to the German Federal Chancellor and General Carsten Breuer, Chief of Defense of the Federal Armed Forces. »

“The meetings focused on contemporary security issues, bilateral defense cooperation and the need to promote global peace and security through bilateral and multilateral dialogue,” the statement added.

“Furthermore, the COAS and CDF had a productive engagement with Admiral Renato Rodrigues de Aguiar Freire, Chief of Joint Staff of the Brazilian Armed Forces and discussed bilateral military cooperation.”

General Rodolph Haykal, commander of the Armed Forces of the Lebanese Republic, also appealed to the COAS, the army’s media wing said.

“During the interaction, the global and regional security situation and measures to strengthen bilateral defense collaboration were discussed,” the ISPR noted.
