Trip marks 70 years of relations, first by a Pakistani prime minister to Vienna in over three decades

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to undertake an official visit to Vienna, Austria, on February 15-16 at the invitation of Austrian Federal Chancellor Christian Stocker, the Foreign Ministry announced in a message on X on Sunday.
The Prime Minister will be accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi and Ambassador to the Foreign Minister Amna Baloch. This visit will mark 70 years of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Austria.
The visit marks the first trip by a Pakistani prime minister to Austria in over three decades, the last being undertaken by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in 1992, the FO statement read.

According to the press release, “during the visit, the Prime Minister will hold bilateral talks with his Austrian counterpart. The two leaders will take stock of all bilateral relations.”
The Prime Minister will also chair a meeting of the Pakistan-Austria Business Forum, organized by the Austrian Economic Chamber (WKO), and visit multilateral organizations.
The statement noted that Pakistan and Austria “enjoy cordial and friendly relations, underpinned by common values of dialogue, cooperation, international order based on the principles of the United Nations Charter, multilateralism and respect for international law.”
