Orlando Magic guard Jase Richardson participated in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest on Saturday night, and he left Southern California fans stunned in a scary on-court incident.
Richardson started his attempt from the corner on the right side of the basket. He had a basketball player friend on the right wing. The friend ran and bounced the ball off the side of the backboard with Richardson behind him.

Richardson attempted a ridiculous dunk, but couldn’t get the ball to the side of the backboard. He got caught and fell on his back on the field.
“I’m fine,” he said afterward, via Orlando Sentinel. “I tried to do a little 360° to the side of the glass, (but) my arm got stuck on the side of the panel.”

He made the second dunk attempt after the fall. He got a total score of 88.8 and that wasn’t enough to qualify him for the final. He and Los Angeles Lakers center Jaxson Hayes did not advance to the next round.
Keshad Johnson of the Miami Heat won the competition against San Antonio Spurs rookie Carter Bryant. Johnson started his dunk behind the scorer’s table and took off from the free throw line. He threw down a dunk with a one-handed windmill.
Bryant completed a between-the-legs dunk on his first attempt, earning him perfect scores, but his second dunk required too many tries, ultimately costing him the victory.

“All kids, keep dreaming, anything can happen,” Johnson said. “I just came here and showed it to people.”
