Arrested suspects allegedly planned attacks on sensitive locations in Karachi

KARACHI:

Sindh Rangers and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on Monday arrested three “highly wanted” suspected facilitators linked to Fitna-e-Hindustan during a joint operation in Chakragoth area of ​​Korangi, officials said.

Explosives and extremist material were recovered during the operation, they added.

According to a Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) spokesperson, the operation was carried out based on intelligence-based information, in coordination with the CTD. The arrested suspects were identified as Yasser Arafat, Khuda Bakhsh and Zahid Hussain alias Barakzai.

The spokesperson said five kilograms of explosive material, 10 meters of cord, three detonators, one kilogram of ball bearings, 250 books containing extremist literature and a laptop were recovered from the suspects’ possession.

Officials said the suspects were involved in facilitating a banned organization by radicalizing students at various colleges and universities and distributing extremist literature. The suspects allegedly concealed explosive materials at a secret location to use them in planned terrorist activities targeting sensitive areas of Karachi.

The arrested men, along with the recovered explosives and materials, were handed over to police for further legal action.

The Rangers spokesperson appealed to the public to contribute to crime prevention by reporting suspicious activities or individuals to the nearest Rangers check post, Rangers helpline 1101 or Madadgar Rangers WhatsApp number 0347-9001111, assuring that the identity of the informants would be kept confidential.
