- The TEAC TN 400BT X/TB is now available in turquoise
- This high-end turntable costs $629.99, available this spring
- Designed for Bluetooth, but also has a wired output
Saying the word “Bluetooth” around an audiophile may be like saying “Macbeth” around actors or “lager” around a beer snob, but the TEAC TN 400BT X/TB aims to be the best turntable for people who want wireless listening.
This is a new version of the TB 400BT X from 2024, which eschews that model’s wooden construction for a funky turquoise design. As someone used to testing all-black models like the Sony PS-LX310BT, it’s an appealing look.
TEAC’s new turntable is expected to be released in the spring for $629.99. It’s billed as a limited edition, only on sale for a short time, so you should keep an eye out at your local Hi-Fi store if you’re interested.
Bluetooth for a blue plate spinner
As the “BT” in the name suggests, this is a model designed for Bluetooth listening, and TEAC has packed it with plenty of useful features. It can transmit via aptX Adaptive, aptX, and SBC, so you won’t lose as much data over the air as you do on some alternatives.
A Phono EQ preamplifier is integrated and the tonearm carries an AT95E cartridge. All the bells and whistles are in place with a counterweight, anti-skate mechanism and tonearm lift.
You don’t need to resort to wireless transmission either, thanks to RCA jacks for line and phono outputs. The platter is made of aluminum, moved with a flat rubber belt, and it can play at three speeds: 33 1/3, 45 and 78 rpm.
TEAC’s Hi-Fi technology isn’t always affordable, like its $2,300 amplifier which will overload your speakers, so the $600 price tag for a turntable seems relatively affordable in comparison. It’s not as cheap as the $500 Pro-ject Debut Carbon Evo, however, which we currently consider our favorite turntable.
