Jorge Masvidal remains one of the most polarizing and entertaining figures in UFC history.

Coming from the Miami street fighting scene, he is famous for his larger-than-life personality and holds the record for the fastest knockout in UFC history.

Finishing his career with a 35-17 record, he is known for his flying knee move and boxing skills. He cultivated the persona of a “Gamebred”: someone ready to fight anytime, anywhere.

However, he is not only a fighter in the field of mixed martial arts, but an outspoken voice of the Latino right and a staunch defender of President Donald Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

It’s also been in the news lately due to rumors that a Trump-backed UFC event will take place at the White House on the South Lawn, possibly featuring a fight between Masvidal and legend Conor McGregor.

He recently spoke with PK Press Club Digital at the Hispanic Prosperity Gala at Mar-a-Lago, an event where he was a co-host.

Masvidal attributes his involvement in politics to witnessing the effects of communism through his family history:

“Me personally, my father being Cuban, I escaped this fucking tyrannical government, seeing what they did with Venezuela…let’s not let what happened there happen here, which is getting crazier than ever, so I just want to thank my Latin people for making the right decision, knowing what communism, socialism looks like, even if they try to disguise it with bulls—, we know because we’ve seen this movie before I’ve experienced this horror movie many times in my life because of my family. So I just want to say f— communism!

Masvidal believes Trump should eliminate communist rule in Cuba, as he did in Venezuela during the Jan. 3 operation in which President Nicolas Maduro was captured and deported to the United States to face drug trafficking charges.

“One hundred percent in Cuba…I can tell you, this should have been done 60 years ago. The people need it. They needed it. They are dying, literally, there. We need this. We need this for Cuba.”

Masvidal expressed a nuanced position on Trump’s hardline immigration policies.

“The violent criminals, yes, the delinquents, the bad people, the crooks, get rid of them. I just wish for good, hard-working Latinos that maybe they committed a crime when they got here, did their time, and then 20, 30 years later they’re good citizens,” he told PK Press Club Digital.

“I wish a lot of these people weren’t deported. I’m Latin myself, the majority of my family is still undocumented, so it’s a tough situation, you know. I want all my Latin people who are really doing good here, paying their taxes, to be able to stay or find a program that can bring them back quickly. That’s what I’d like to see, but it takes all the violent people to get them out.”

Masvidal can pinpoint the moment he became politically active.

“It will be my father who escaped Cuba at a very young age and who will assist me with my family to tell me stories. My aunt from Guantanamo Bay… the closest town. It is riddled with land mines… My aunt risked her life to cross. A mine exploded and blew her teeth out.”

“And these are the people who have mentored me throughout my life, so it wasn’t a particular incident, but it was just an education for life. [seeing] what communism looks like… it is a cancer, the parasite of any society where it touches. Be prepared to fight him if he ever comes to America. And that’s basically it. »
