DERA GHAZI KHAN:

A Rs12 billion sewerage project to renovate the urban sanitation system in Dera Ghazi Khan was reviewed on Tuesday during a visit by Punjab Housing, Urban Development and Public Health Engineering Secretary Noorul Amin Mengal.

Accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Usman Khalid, the secretary inspected the ongoing works under the Punjab Development Program, where officials said the Rs 12 billion initiative aimed at providing the city with a modern, sustainable and efficient sewerage network.

WASA Managing Director Malik Jawad Kaleem briefed the officials on the technical progress of the project. Secretary Mengal also visited two RCC pipe manufacturing plants established for the project. One plant produces pipes 72 inches in diameter, while the other manufactures pipes ranging from 12 to 42 inches in diameter.

Officials reviewed production processes, quality assurance measures and construction speed, with an emphasis on strict adherence to technical standards. At Masoomabad Road, officials demonstrated the laying and connection of a 24-inch pipeline and ongoing sewerage pipe installations.

The secretary expressed his satisfaction with the quality of work, technical compliance and safety measures adopted on the site. He described the project as an important milestone for improving urban infrastructure and civic services in Dera Ghazi Khan, emphasizing the importance of timely completion and maintaining high construction standards.

Deputy Commissioner Khalid said strict monitoring mechanisms were in place to ensure quality and timeliness of project delivery, adding that the improved sewerage system would improve urban living conditions and promote public health.

Officials said the project is expected to significantly improve wastewater management and lay the foundation for a cleaner, more resilient urban environment.
