PlayStation has closed Bluepoint Games, the studio responsible for modern remakes of Shadow of the Colossus And The souls of demonsfive years after its acquisition.
This is according to Bloomberg, who confirmed the closure of PlayStation and indicated that around 70 employees would be affected when the studio officially closes next month.
“Bluepoint Games is an incredibly talented team and their technical expertise has helped deliver exceptional experiences to the PlayStation community,” a PlayStation spokesperson said in a statement to Bloomberg. “We thank them for their passion, their creativity and their know-how.”
Shutdown comes after PlayStation canceled Bluepoint live service God of War project, which he worked on until January 2025, and reportedly spent the last year coming up with new ideas before it closed.
Bluepoint Games was behind the terrific remakes of several PlayStation titles, including the aforementioned 2018 remake of Shadow of the Colossus and the 2020 The souls of demons remake, after which the studio was acquired in 2021.
He also developed the God of War Collection, Metal Gear Solid HD CollectionAnd Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection.
Hermen Hulst, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, has since released an internal statement regarding the studio’s closure (via Stealth40k), suggesting that “rising development costs” were a factor in Bluepoint’s closure.
“As I mentioned during the December town hall, 2025 has had some big moments at PlayStation Studios. Yotei’s Ghost launched with critical and commercial success, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach further demonstrated our commitment to narrative excellence, and Helldiverse 2 And MLB The Show continue to drive continued player engagement and revenue,” Hulst said.
“At the same time, we are operating in an increasingly challenging industry environment. Rising development costs, slowing industry growth, changing player behavior and broader economic headwinds are making it more difficult to create sustainable games.
“To face this reality, we must continue to adapt and evolve. We have taken a hard look at our operations to ensure we deliver on our promises today while remaining well-positioned for the future. As a result, we will close Bluepoint Games in March.”
Hulst continued: “This decision was not made lightly. Bluepoint is an incredibly talented team, and their technical expertise has helped deliver exceptional experiences to the PlayStation community. I want to thank everyone at Bluepoint for their creativity, craftsmanship, and commitment to quality. Where possible, we will work to find opportunities for certain affected employees within our global network of studios.”
Sony’s CEO goes on to say that the company is “confident in the direction” it is headed and has a “strong roadmap for FY26, with much to look forward to in the months ahead.”
