PESHAWAR:

Three Federal Police (FC) personnel were killed on Monday after terrorists attacked a fort in Karak district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa state, police said.

Karak District Police Officer (DPO) Saud Khan said the terrorists belonging to the banned group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), called β€œFitna al-Khawarij”, targeted an FC fort near Dargah Shaheedan area in Bahadar Khel, under the jurisdiction of Khurram Police Station Muhammad Zai, with a drone strike.

β€œThe injured personnel were being taken to hospital when the terrorists launched a second attack on the ambulances en route,” the DPO said, adding that three personnel were killed in the assault and the attackers set fire to the ambulances with the injured inside.

He said the attackers also targeted Rescue 1122 personnel during the incident, adding that the injured rescue officials were taken to Khalifa Gul Nawaz Hospital in Bannu for treatment.

DPO Khan said security forces launched a search operation in the area following the attacks and have since cleared the surrounding areas.

KP has witnessed an upsurge in terrorist activities with two Pakistani security personnel, including Lt Col Shahzada Gul Faraz and Sepoy Karamat Shah, martyred during an anti-terrorism operation in Bannu district on Saturday.

The next day, two terrorists, including a detained commander, were killed when outlaws attacked a Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) vehicle in a bid to free their leader in Bannu district.

General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations, earlier said that 80 per cent of all terrorist incidents in the country occurred in KP. He had attributed the trend to what he described as a “politically permissive environment” for terrorists and an “emerging nexus between political and terrorist elements” in the province.
