WASHINGTON: The United States sees Iran trying to rebuild its nuclear program after U.S.-led strikes on Iranian nuclear sites in June, Vice President JD Vance said Wednesday.
US President Donald Trump has repeatedly said the June strikes destroyed Iran’s nuclear sites and that he would not allow Tehran to reconstitute its program.
“The principle is very simple: Iran cannot have nuclear weapons,” Vance told reporters, a day before talks in Geneva between the American and Iranian delegations.
Vance said U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner would meet with an Iranian delegation in Geneva on Thursday to assess whether a deal could be reached, with a massive U.S. military presence in the region.
