- 007 First LightGameplay director says IOI took inspiration from other AAA action-adventure games
- Andreas Krogh says the team was influenced by the Batman Arkham fighting games and Unexplored for environmental destructibility
- He adds that the game will offer players the freedom to choose how to complete a mission.
007 First LightGameplay Director Andreas Krogh has revealed which games inspired IO Interactive’s James Bond action-adventure game.
In an interview with GameInformer (via GameSpot), Krogh discussed the influences examined by IOI, which included AAA games “on the same scale” as 007 First Light. These include the Batman: Arkham games, as well as Naughty Dog’s Unexplored.
“What are our benchmarks here? What are some other games that do this well, at the same scale and in the same kind of scope as this game? Obviously we have some benchmarks there in the approach to close quarters combat,” Krough said.
“I think you see the Arkham games, you see those games in it. You also see modern versions of destructibility in the environment that don’t necessarily come from the Arkham games, but newer versions like Unexplored. We have a deeper system than that because we want to do more, and when filming you see references that also come from modern games. ยป
IOI is best known for its excellent approach to player freedom in its Hitman series, in particular, how you complete the assassin scenarios. You can go completely stealthy, eliminating targets without alerting guards with a silencer or bare hands, pulling off fake accidents, and even making them slip on a banana peel.
On the other hand, 007 First Light will be a little different. It’s an action-adventure game with a simplified narrative, but Krough explained that the freedom to choose how to complete a mission is still there, even if there won’t be any banana peels this time.
This means using stealth to sneak past enemies or using all weapons, in classic Bond style, with a range of weapons and gadgets at your disposal.
“We want the player to choose for themselves. What kind of player are you? What type of playing style do you prefer? Play that way,” Krogh said.
007 First Light will launch on May 27, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC.
