Ancient Auburn men’s basketball coach Bruce Pearl called Iran the “head of the snake” and supported President Donald Trump hours after the United States and Israel launched a joint attack on the country.

Pearl, one of the few Jewish college basketball coaches before his retirement in September, took to social media shortly after the United States joined Israel in launching preemptive strikes against Iran on Saturday morning.

“President Trump gave Iran a chance to avoid war by simply agreeing not to resort to nuclear weapons. Iran launched intermediary actions towards other Arab countries and Israel, a huge mistake! Saudi Arabia is joining us,” Pearl wrote in a post on X.

“Iran is the head of the snake. President Trump is the leader of the free world. Defeat Evil then Peace!”

In a previous article on X, Pearl argued for a “free Iran” and “real peace” in the Middle East.

“Lord, hear our prayer, please protect our heroic armed forces as they target Iranian military and missile sites with Operation Epic Fury. Pray for the innocent. Pray for the enemy to be destroyed, for a free Iran and then for true peace in the Middle East.”

In video remarks posted to Truth Social, Trump encouraged the Iranian people take over their government once the United States and Israel complete their “major combat operations” in Iran.

“The hour of your freedom is near. Stay safe. Do not leave your house. It is very dangerous outside,” he said, addressing the Iranian people. “This will probably be your only chance for generations. For many years you have asked America for help, but you never got it. No president was prepared to do what I am prepared to do tonight. You now have a president who will give you what you want.”

Iran has launched retaliatory missile strikes against US facilities in several countries. Jennifer Griffin of PK Press Club reported that about 40 missiles landed in Israel. Additionally, Iran appears to have struck the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet, but no casualties have been reported. Iran has also launched missiles at Saudi Arabia and Jordan, where the United States has squadrons of advanced fighter jets, Griffin added.

Pearl, a staunch supporter of Israel since the October 7 attacks, was named chairman of the board of directors of the American Israel Education Association (USIEA) in April. At the time of the announcement, Pearl said he was “proud to continue to advocate for greater understanding and collaboration” between the United States and Israel.
