- The Petroleum Division notifies new prices.
- Petrol price set at Rs266.17 per litre.
- Diesel increased by Rs 5.16 to Rs 280.86 per litre.
The federal government has increased the price of petrol by Rs 8 per liter over the next fortnight, starting March 1.
In a notification, the Petroleum Division said the price of petrol has been increased to Rs 266.17 per liter from Rs 258.17.
Similarly, the price of diesel has been increased by Rs 5.16 to Rs 280.86 per litre, from the previous rate of Rs 275.7.
Petrol is mainly used by commuters traveling in small vehicles, rickshaws and two-wheelers. Rising fuel prices have a significant impact on the budgets of middle and lower class households, who rely on gasoline for their daily commute.
On the other hand, a significant portion of the transportation sector relies on high-speed diesel.
Its price is considered inflationary as it is mainly used in heavy trucks, trucks, buses, trains and agricultural machinery such as tractors, tube wells and threshers.
High-speed diesel consumption is particularly contributing to the rise in prices of vegetables and other food items.
