Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who completed a major two-day visit to Jordan this week, appear to have received a mixed reaction from the British public and royal fans.
While some had praised the couple for their efforts, others sharply criticized the “quasi-royal” tour, accusing them of copying the royal family. However, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex received a rather melancholy verdict on the matter.
According to royal experts, Harry and Meghan found themselves in a difficult situation after leaving senior positions and breaking up with the royal family, but the criticism this time around had been “largely unfair” to the couple.
The Jordanian royal family has very close ties with the British royal family, noted royal expert Russell Myers, who wrote a joint biography on Prince William and Princess Kate. He also pointed out that Jordan is “pretty much in the royal family’s court.”
However, he argued that Harry and Meghan did not deserve intense criticism because they were in the country on a humanitarian visit at the invitation of World Health Organization director-general Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
He suggested that even if Harry and Meghan were being followed by a film crew or filming a new documentary for Netflix, they were still using their profile for the “public good.” Russell then urged people to “calm down a little” in the case of the Sussexes.
