The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Pakistan, in a statement issued on Sunday, condemned “in the strongest possible terms” what it called “the cowardly, hideous and barbaric terrorist act targeting the leadership of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

The statement comes as Iranian state media confirmed that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in yesterday’s Israeli and US strikes against Iran.

“Recalling the courage, resistance, steadfastness and lifelong dedication of the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, to the ideals of independence, dignity and resistance,” the statement said, it reaffirms “unwavering solidarity with the noble aspirations of the Islamic Revolution.”

Furthermore, the embassy expresses its strong commitment to the enduring principles of the Islamic Revolution, emphasizing “that we will hold to the eternal aspirations of this great martyr until our last breath and until the last drop of our blood.”

The statement considered Khamenei as “a great historical figure who, like his great ancestor, Imam Hussein (PBUH), was bravely martyred alongside his innocent family at the hands of the most despicable, vicious and cowardly elements of Karbala and did not surrender or succumb.”

Khamenei’s struggles, the embassy wrote, calling him a great martyr and tireless scholar, “will forever be recorded in history and will constitute a model for free peoples of the world.”

“The blood of the Great Leader… made the evergreen sapling of the Islamic Republic more fertile and resilient,” the statement added.

Stating that Iran is founded on strong constitutional institutions and well-established legal mechanisms, the embassy adds that “relying on the solid structure established by the great imams of the Islamic Revolution, relying on the blood of martyrs and in all circumstances, the country, in full compliance with its Constitution, will ensure the continuity of leadership and governance with unity, resilience and unwavering determination.”

He adds that the Islamic Republic will elect its new leaders, “pursuing with courage and determination its spiritual and human path.”

Khamenei, 86, was martyred in the most ambitious series of attacks on Iran in decades, which have so far left 201 people dead and more than 700 injured.

U.S. President Donald Trump said the airstrikes against Iranian targets were aimed at ending a decades-long Iranian threat and ensuring Iran cannot develop a nuclear weapon, seeking to justify a risky gamble that appears to run counter to his stated opposition to U.S. involvement in complex conflicts abroad.

However, Iran retaliated following what Israel and the United States called “Operation Epic Fury,” launching hundreds of missiles and drones in response to the initial attacks. Iranian missiles have targeted US troops in the region and cities in Israel and Washington’s Arab allies.
