- Shark has announced a new robot vacuum and mop: the PowerDetect UV Reveal
- It is equipped with UV light and RGB camera to search for invisible dirt
- Then a deliberate scrubbing motion is activated to remove the damage.
Shark has come up with an innovative way to show customers exactly how well its new robot vacuum works. The recently announced PowerDetect UV Reveal is equipped with an ultraviolet light, which works with an RGB camera to spot and highlight invisible messes, before cleaning them up.
Shark says the idea is to provide “insight into what’s happening at each stage of the cleaning process.” There are lights that indicate the robot is looking for a spot, and then the UV kicks in to illuminate the mess. Shark lists dried liquids, juices, food splashes, sweat, and pet accidents as examples of things the PowerDetect UV Reveal can detect.
Once a hidden spill has been identified, the robot vacuum switches to ‘HyperSonic Mopping’ mode, where it will scrub the floor in a deliberate motion, before checking that the dirt is gone before continuing.
“We’ve heard from consumers who own robot vacuums that they never know if the job was done or what was cleaned,” says Andy Sundberg, vice president of marketing at SharkNinja. “That’s why we created PowerDetect UV Reveal. By uncovering hidden messes and showing exactly how they are cleaned, it gives customers visibility and confidence that their floors don’t just look clean: they are clean.
Elsewhere, the PowerDetect UV Reveal features ‘NeuroNav AI’ navigation and ‘NeverStuck technology’, designed to help it navigate your home confidently, intelligently and precisely, without getting lost or stuck. It can run for up to three hours per charge.
The dock has also been improved over previous Shark robot vacuums. The new “ThermaCharged NeverTouch Pro Base” cleans the mop pad after each use. Although it’s bagless, Shark lists a “full anti-allergen seal” to prevent allergens from escaping once they’ve been vacuumed up. I’ll be interested to see exactly how this works in practice.
Pricing and availability
The PowerDetect UV Reveal is available for purchase now in the US, directly from Shark or through a range of third-party retailers like Amazon, Costco and Best Buy. Prices start from $1,299.99 (around £960 / AU$1,845), although Shark isn’t afraid of a deal, and I think it won’t be too difficult to avoid paying full price. Shark has a strong presence in the UK and Australia, but I don’t yet know if or when the PowerDetect UV Reveal might be available there.
