- The Lenovo Legion Go Fold is a new handheld concept from MWC
- It can unfold to form an iPad-sized screen
- You can use it as a handheld or laptop
I love the Asus ROG Xbox Ally
Shown at MWC, the Lenovo Legion Go Fold Concept can expand from a more standard 7.7-inch screen size to an 11.6-inch screen size in a 16:10 aspect ratio. Strapped between controllers in handheld mode, that iPad-sized screen looks absurd in portrait orientation, but it can be transformed to landscape mode for a more responsive gaming experience (even if it doesn’t look very comfortable).
Better yet, you can remove the screen entirely. You can then use the display as a laptop with a portable keyboard, or continue gaming using Lenovo’s Joy-Con-style controllers.
An expensive upgrade, probably
In addition to its flexible screen, this Lenovo handheld is equipped with 32 GB of RAM, an Intel Core Ultra 7 258V Lunar Lake processor and 1 TB of storage. Additionally, if an extra-large screen wasn’t enough, the controller has a built-in circular touchscreen that can be used to navigate certain UI elements, or provide additional fun and utility like a clock or to play an animation.
Since this is a prototype, Lenovo hasn’t listed a price (or release date) for the Legion Go Fold, but if it does launch, don’t expect it to be cheap. A regular Lenovo Legion Go 2 would cost you $1,049 / £1,000 / AU$1,609, and after considering the premium that comes with foldable displays (just look at the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 which costs around twice the price of the Samsung Galaxy S26 for an idea), it wouldn’t be absurd to see the Legion Go Fold cost close to or over $2,000.
That’s not even talking about the RAM crisis. The current component shortage and resulting price surge is driving up prices for our favorite technology, and 32GB of RAM won’t come cheap in today’s climate.
What I’m saying is that even if many concepts eventually see the light of day, I don’t expect Lenovo’s foldable laptop to launch anytime soon, if at all. I’m a foldable convert and I love my gaming handhelds, so this should be a slam dunk product for me, but I couldn’t fathom dropping nearly $2,000 on this thing – at this point I could get a very solid gaming laptop instead, which seems like a much better value.
If you desperately need a larger portable screen for your handheld, a much more affordable option would be a pair of XR smart glasses like RayNeo or Xreal.
