I was initially baffled by the options offered today. Or rather, perplexed – because so many people seemed to go with so many others. Where to start? Most of the options I had came in pairs, so my breakthrough came when I realized that HOUND, SHADOW, and TRACK were a trio, and then I added TAIL to complete the yellow quartet.
This helped a little, but I was still confused. Then I saw GOSSIP and GONE sitting next to each other, and noticed GIRL was going after the two to make tracks. It took me a while to think about NEW and WORK, but I finally got there.
With the toughest group on land, I thought it would be a breeze from here, and it was. I clicked on BIKE, BOOK, TOY and VIDEO GAME thinking “surely it can’t be that simple” – but it was, because CLASSIC KID GIFTS was a very easy blue.
Answers from yesterday’s NYT Connections (Tuesday March 3, match #996)
- YELLOW: THE “BIG” THINGS APPLE, BROTHER, DIPPER, MAC
- GREEN: BE NEXT TO ABOUT, FLANK, NEIGHBOR, TOUCH
- BLUE: SEEN IN A CUPBOARD HANGER, HOOK, ROD, SHELF
- PURPLE: START WITH THE SYNONYMS OF “SPEEDY” BRISKET, TASTIDIOUS, FLEETWOOD, QUICKSAND
What is NYT Connections?
NYT Connections is one of several increasingly popular word games created by the New York Times. It challenges you to find groups of four elements that share something in common, and each group has a different difficulty level: green is easy, yellow is a little more difficult, blue is often quite difficult, and purple is usually very difficult.
On the plus side, you technically don’t need to solve the final question, as you will be able to answer it through a process of elimination. Additionally, you can make up to four mistakes, giving you some breathing room.
However, it’s a bit more complex than something like Wordle, and the game provides plenty of opportunities to trip you up with tricks. For example, watch out for homophones and other puns that could obscure the answers.
It is playable for free via the NYT Games website on computer or mobile.
