- Leaders know that departmental silos prevent the effective deployment of AI.
- Shadow AI is on the rise – a clear indication that the demand for AI is there
- Existing infrastructure not ready for AI, executives admit
A new study from Nutanix found that the vast majority (85%) of organizations are now increasing the adoption of containers to support AI workloads because of portability, scalability and reliability, but even when everything is packaged for maximum efficiency, they still struggle with the fundamentals.
Four in five companies (82%) worry that silos between business units and IT will hinder their ability to execute on technologies like AI, and many are struggling with the use of shadow AI as a result.
This is despite 87% recognizing that unauthorized use of AI can create risks for the business.
Workers are clearly interested in AI
The rise of shadow AI is a clear indicator that companies are failing to meet workers’ demands: Shadow AI is particularly common in departments that operate independently of IT oversight.
Workers see AI agents as contributing to customer experience (61%), productivity and efficiency (58%), and the creation of new products and services (57%), but these benefits are not securely accessible without appropriate infrastructure. A fundamental gap identified in the Nutanix report.
In terms of infrastructure, 82% of executives admitted that their existing setups are not suitable for on-premises AI workloads. A similar number (80%) also highlighted the greater role data sovereignty plays in their infrastructure decisions, which could add complexity and slow down their modernization efforts.
Looking ahead, the report details how containers have become a “critical part” of enterprise application strategy, with 85% of organizations surveyed poised to drive container adoption in the name of speed, reliability and scalability.
“The results indicate that organizations need enterprise-grade security, resiliency and portability because AI workloads can run anywhere,” wrote Lee Caswell, vice president of product and solutions marketing.
