Maggie Gyllenhaal, director of Frankenstein’s Bride, shared about removing certain scenes from the film as per the studios’ request.

Speaking about the sci-fi horror project in an interview, the two-time Oscar nominee revealed that The bridewhich is now showing in theaters, has strayed somewhat from the original storyline.

She explained that Warner Bros. had asked him to “remove” certain scenes of sexual violence from the film after test screenings.

Maggie claimed: “There’s sexual violence. There’s violence. Because it’s a big studio film, we tested it and tested it. We had big screenings in malls, where people were coming to see it, which I’ve never been a part of as an actress or a director before.”

She revealed that after the screenings, the first thing the studio brought up was violence.

Gyllenhaal claimed she asked many women their opinions on brutal violence, and everyone responded by saying they didn’t want to see a woman being raped.

“A few women told me, ‘I don’t want a woman to be raped.’ And I think I don’t want to see that either,” Maggie admitted while speaking with The New York Times.

The bride features Christian Bale as Frankenstein’s Monster with Jessie Buckley as the Bride. Jake Gyllenhaal also plays a central role in his sister’s film.
